From using a friend’s small sony camera to working with big brands like Multichoice Africa, and California wines. What started as a joke is what has so far brought a shine to his name. He got to share his story in an interview with us.

IN YOUR OWN WORDS, WHO IS COLLINS ALLINDI?

He is a portrait, food, lifestyle, and event photographer but mainly focuses on portrait photography.

YOU ARE SUCH AN EPIC PHOTOGRAPHER, COULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR CAREER PATH?

Since I loved taking pictures a lot, a friend used to lend me his small sony camera. Then when I joined high school, I met Caleb Okumu who helped me propel my career in the early days. When I was starting, I started as a joke until 2018 when I bought my first camera and spearheaded my career journey.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK UP TO BEFORE GOING INTO A PHOTO SESSION?

It depends on who it is. If it is a client, I will be keener on what the client wants and make sure they are satisfied. For example, what they are wearing should blend with the location we are going to use. If it is a model, I arrange mood boards for the shoot and have a breakdown of the looks we are going for.

HOW DO THE GIGS COME IN?

Gigs come in, in different ways. I get some gigs through my social media pages like Instagram @collinsallindi or through my website allindi.mypixieset.com or through referrals from my former clients and friends.

WHAT ARE THE GADGETS YOU USE AND THE INSPIRATION BEHIND IT?

I use a Canon EOS RP, an Amaran 200d, Godox AD600, and An Asus Laptop to edit. The Godox is good in lighting, especially for outdoor shoots, the Amaran mainly in food photography because it’s convenient for a quick change of settings, and Canon because I can get lenses at a good price.

WHAT KEEPS YOU CONSISTENT IN YOUR FIELD OF WORK?

The fact that I work with my friends really keeps me on my toes. Dodman Mirikau, Josh Bradshaw, and Edgar Minanga are among the friends who really motivate me. I’m always onto something when working with them and also it’s very motivating to see that something that started as a joke is now turning into a daily profession.

WHAT ARE THE ACHIEVEMENTS YOU’VE CONQUERED SINCE THE START OF YOUR JOURNEY?

Working with major brands that I never thought of like; California Wines, Multichoice Africa, The brands of Africa, and The food library just to mention a few. I have also bought new gear to better the quality of work and now I’m working towards opening my own studio.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF AS A PHOTOGRAPHER IN YEARS’ TIME?

I envision having a photo/video studio where I host a space to work with my fellow creatives, create a good working environment for creatives, and have a marketing agency with brands on the billboard under my name.
